Training that Strengthens Oregon’s Capacity to Care

Our trainings prepare professionals and community members to respond to behavioral health challenges with confidence and care. Grounded in evidence and shaped by lived experience, each program reflects the cultures and communities of Oregon, ensuring that every responder is prepared to meet moments of crisis with skillful understanding and a focus on humanity.

Mobile Crisis Training Academy

Prepare to respond safely, effectively, and compassionately in moments of crisis. This free, state-supported foundational training equips Oregon’s mobile crisis responders, including clinicians, peers, and family support partners, with trauma-informed skills for de-escalation, suicide risk screening, and culturally responsive care. Participants can also become certified trainers, helping expand crisis response capacity across Oregon.

Primeros auxilios de salud mental

Mental Health First Aid empowers community members and professionals to recognize and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges. Offered statewide in-person and online, MHFA provides practical tools to approach, listen to, and connect with someone in distress. Community-specific courses are designed to teach MHFA skills to adults, youth-serving professionals, veterans, older adults, public safety personnel, teens, and Spanish-speaking individuals.

Connect Postvention Training

Connect helps families, workplaces, and communities respond with sensitivity and compassion after a suicide or sudden death. This evidence-based program strengthens coordination among local service providers, reduces suicide risk, and promotes healing. Participants learn to support those affected by loss and develop sustainable postvention plans for long-term recovery and prevention.

Oregon CALM (OCALM)

OCALM is Oregon’s version of the national Counseling on Access to Lethal Means course. Designed for healthcare and service providers, this 8-hour training builds confidence in discussing suicide risk and firearm or medication safety. Using Oregon-specific data and cultural context, OCALM promotes informed, respectful, and collaborative safety planning.

Capacitación en Habilidades para la Intervención en Suicidio (ASIST)

ASIST is a two-day, evidence-based workshop that prepares participants to recognize and respond to people with thoughts of suicide. Through interactive learning, attendees gain practical skills to intervene, ensure safety, and build collaborative support plans. Open to anyone 16 or older, ASIST strengthens community capacity to save lives.

Capacitación Avanzada

The Advanced Skills Trainings deepen the expertise of Oregon’s behavioral health professionals through specialized, evidence-based approaches. Participants gain practical methods for suicide prevention, crisis response, and emotional wellness across diverse populations. Courses include Attachment-Based Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS), and Motivational Interviewing, which collectively create a more confident, connected, and capable workforce statewide.
